The risk of fire is forcing Jeep to recall nearly 87,000 Wranglers in the U.S., Canada and other parts of the world.  About 68,000 of those were sold in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The government has received reports of 14 fires – though no claims of injuries or fatalities connected to the problem.  According to the recall notice, the issue appears to be centered around a skid plate that makes it possible for debris to collect and press up against the SUV’s catalytic converter.  Because of the high heat that can lead to a fire.

The recall is limited to Wranglers equipped with automatic transmissions built during the 2010 model-year.  Owners of vehicles produced before July 14, 2010 will receive a notification in the coming weeks and will be advised when they can schedule a free repair with a nearby dealer.

According to the recall notice, the netting surrounding these trampolines can break, allowing children to fall through the netting and be injured.  Apparently, Sportspower has received 17 reports of the net breaking, resulting in 11 injuries including broken bones, back and neck injuries, and contusions.

The recalled trampolines were sold only at Walmart stores nationwide from February 2009 through February 2012 for about $275.

According to GM, this particular recall affects 2011 and 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia vehicles.  Specifically, those vehicles which are registered in 28 cold-weather states are being recalled.  According to federal safety regulators, ice and snow can build up and restrict movement of the wipers. That can make the wiper arm come loose and malfunction.

GM says dealers will fasten the wipers tighter than factory specifications to stop the problem from happening.  GM will send letters to owners and start the recall later this month.

According to the recall notice, connections in the toy trucks battery compartment can smolder or catch the trucks on fire, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

The recalled shirt / toy were sold at Kohl's stores nationwide and www.Kohls.com between February 2012 and March 2012 for about $20.

According to the recall notice, the two 60-watt light bulbs included with the ceiling fans exceed the fan’s maximum wattage, which can cause the ceiling fans to overheat or fail. This poses fire and shock hazards to consumers.  Ceiling fans with 24, 30 and 42-inch diameter blades are included in this recall. “Westinghouse” is printed on the fan’s ceiling canopy.

The recalled fans were sold at various home improvement and hardware stores, home centers and electrical product suppliers nationwide and online at www.amazon.com from January 2011 through January 2012 for between $135 and $150.

The Merrillville personal injury law firm, Schlyer & Associates, the Aggressive Trial Lawyers, is warning of a recall issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission of about 900,000 Push ‘N Snap Cabinet Locks imported by Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) Inc., of Columbus, Indiana.

According to the recall notice, young children can disengage the cabinet locks, allowing access to cabinet contents and posing the risk of injury, due to dangerous or unsafe items.  DJG has received 200 reports of locks that did not adequately secure the cabinet, including reports of damaged locks. Of the reported incidents, the firm is aware of 140 children between the ages of 9 months and 5 years who were able to disengage the locks and gain access to the cabinet’s contents. In three of the reported incidents, the children who gained access swallowed or handled dishwashing detergent, window cleaner or oven cleaner, and were treated, observed and released from emergency treatment centers.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,  the recall involves Safety 1st Push ‘N Snap cabinet locks with model numbers 48391 and 48442. The model numbers are printed on the back of the product and on packaging. The locks are used to secure cabinets with two straps that wrap around the knobs or handles on a cabinet door. When the product is in the “lock” position, a green triangle is shown through a window on the device. The Safety 1st logo is embossed on the front of the lock. Locks manufactured between January 2004 and November 2010 are included in the recall. The date of manufacture is embossed on the back. The arrow on the date wheel points to the month and the numbers of either side of arrow represent the year of manufacture.

The recalled locks were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, and other retail stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from January 2004 through February 2012 for between $2 and $4.

If you have any of the recalled locks, you should immediately remove the recalled locks from cabinets and contact DJG at (866) 762-3212 for a free replacement Push ‘N Snap lock with model numbers HS158 or HS159. When removing the recalled locks, consumers are urged to immediately store dangerous items out of reach of children.

According to the recall notice, the surface paints on the action figures contain excessive levels of lead which is prohibited under federal law.

The recalled toys were sold at various Mexican specialty craft stores nationwide from June 2000 through October 2011 for between $12 and $14 per pack.

According to the recall notice, the bicycle trailer’s hitch mechanisms can crack and break, causing the trailer to detach from the bicycle. This poses an injury hazard to children in the bicycle trailer.  The recall notice states the Chariot Carriers convert to strollers, jogging strollers and bike, hike or ski trailers.

The recalled items were sold at specialty bicycle stores nationwide and on various websites from December 2005 through August 2010 for between $400 and $925 for Chariot bicycle trailers and from October 2002 through August 2011 for between $40 and $70 for bicycle trailer conversion kits.

According to the recall notice, the animal's eyes can detach from the slippers, posing a choking hazard to young children.  The recalled children's slippers have brown or tan dog faces, yellow duck faces and tan lion faces.

There are many bankruptcy myths that scare many people.  MSN recently posted an article about bankruptcy myths that we will share with you?

With a mind toward declawing the monster, here are a dozen misconceptions about bankruptcy:

1. Everyone will know I've filed for bankruptcy. Unless you're a prominent person or a major corporation and the filing is picked up by the media, the chances are very good that the only people who will know about a filing are your creditors. While it's true that bankruptcy is a public legal proceeding, the number of people filing is so massive that very few publications have the space, manpower or inclination to run all of them, although some local newspapers do print the names of those who have filed in that community.

2. All debts are wiped out in Chapter 7 bankruptcy. You wish. Certain types of debts cannot be discharged, or erased. They include child support and alimony, student loans, restitution for a criminal act and debts incurred as the result of fraud.

3. I'll lose everything I have. This is the misconception that keeps people who really should file for bankruptcy from doing it, says Chris Viale, the chief operating officer of Cambridge Credit Counseling in Massachusetts.

"They think the government will sell everything they have and they'll have to start over in a cardboard box," Viale says.

While bankruptcy laws vary from state to state, every state has exemptions that protect certain kinds of assets, such as your house, your car (up to a certain value), money in qualified retirement plans, household goods and clothing.

"For most people, they'll pass through a bankruptcy case and keep everything they have," says John Hargrave, a bankruptcy trustee in New Jersey. If you have a mortgage or a car loan, you can keep the property as long as you keep making payments (like the rest of us).

4. I'll never get credit again. Quite the contrary. It won't be long before you're getting credit card offers again. They'll just be from subprime lenders that will charge very high interest rates. "There are innumerable companies that will provide credit to you," says California bankruptcy attorney and trustee Howard Ehrenberg.

5. If you're married, both spouses have to file for bankruptcy. Not necessarily. "It's not uncommon for one spouse to have a significant amount of debt in their name only," Hargrave says. However, if spouses have debts they want to discharge that they're both liable for, they should file together. Otherwise, the creditor will simply demand payment for the entire amount from the spouse who didn't file.

6. It's really hard to file for bankruptcy. It's really not. Technically, you don't even need an attorney -- you can do the paperwork without one. However, going through the procedure alone is not recommended.

7. Only deadbeats file for bankruptcy. Most people file for bankruptcy after a life-changing experience, such as a divorce, the loss of a job or a serious illness. They've struggled to pay their bills for months and just keep falling further behind.

8. I don't want to include certain creditors in my filing because it's important to me to pay them back someday, and if the debt is discharged, I can't ever repay them. Bless you for even thinking about such a thing. You're no longer obligated to repay them, but you always have the opportunity. If your conscience won't let you sleep because you didn't pay your debts, there's nothing in the bankruptcy code that prevents you from doing that once you're back on your feet. But it is nearly impossible to leave any account with a balance out of your list of creditors. In general, all creditors receive notification of your bankruptcy filing, whether they are listed in the petition or not.

9. Filing for bankruptcy will improve my credit rating because all those debts will be gone. Filing for bankruptcy is the worst "negative" you can have on your credit report. Unlike other negatives, which stay on your report for seven years, bankruptcy can be there for 10 years, but you do get to rebuild your credit eventually.

10. You can't get rid of back taxes through bankruptcy. Generally speaking, this is true. However, there is such a thing as tax bankruptcy.

11. You can only file for bankruptcy once. The truth is, you can file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy only once every eight years, says Justin Harelik, Bankrate's bankruptcy adviser. For Chapter 13 reorganization, you can file more often than that.

Of course, that doesn't make it a good idea.

"Multiple bankruptcies are really bad," Rosenberg says. "Many people get into the habit of once they've done it, it becomes a way of life. This is not good for your karma." Or your credit rating.

12. I can max out all my credit cards, file for bankruptcy and never pay for the things I bought.That's called fraud, and bankruptcy judges can get really cranky about it.

The recalled tampons were sold at Walmart, Fry's and Smith's stores in eight states. They were sold in 18-count and 36-count boxes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of about 308,000 Harley Davidson motorcylces to fix a switch problem that can cause failure of the brake lights and possibly even the rear brakes themselves the Northwest Indiana personal injury law firm of Schlyer & Associates is warning.

According to the recall notice, brake light switches can be exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system. The brake lights can fail, and the problem also can cause fluid leaks and the loss of rear brakes.  The problem affects Touring, CVO Touring and Trike vehicles from the 2009 through 2012 model years the notice states.

The company reports it will notify owners of the recall. Dealers will install a rear brake light switch kit free of charge.

The recall affects about 251,000 motorcycles in the U.S. alone according to the recall notice.

This recall was originally issued in March 2010, however additional sales of the recalled product prompted a re-announcement of this recall.  About 240,000 units were initially recalled.  Photographs of the recalled items can be found by following this link.

According to the recall notice, the following two (2) products are recalled for various reasons:

Roman Shades - Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

Roll-up Blinds - Strangulation can occur if the lifting loops slide off the side of the blind and a child’s neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop or if a child places his/her neck between the lifting loop and the roll-up blind material.

These products were initially sold at Meijer but now maybe found at various discount retailers, dollar stores, flea markets and other retail liquidators nationwide from March 2010 through September 2011 at various prices. Originally the products were sold at Meijer stores between January 2004 and December 2009 for about $40 before being recalled.

According to the recall notice, the steel wire frame of the tent can break, producing sharp wire ends that can protrude through the tent fabric, posing a laceration or puncture hazard.  This recall involves a cube-shaped children’s folding tent with model number 90192009. The brand name BUSA and IKEA and the model number are printed on a sewn-in label attached to an interior seam in the tent. The tent frame is made of flat steel wire and the tent material is pale green polyester fabric with turquoise, pink and white trim.

The recalled tents were only sold at IKEA stores nationwide from August 2011 through September 2011 for about $8.

According to the recall notice, while in operation, the plastic pitcher can separate from the blade assembly, leaving the blade assembly in the base and exposing the rotating blades. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers.

According to the CPSC this recall affects all Chefmate® 6-Speed Blenders, model BL-10. The model number is located on the bottom of the base. The blender consists of a six-inch tall, white electrical base with five, white speed-selector buttons labeled 1 through 5, one gray button labeled “Pulse/Off” and the word “Chefmate®” in black letters on the front; a clear plastic pitcher with a handle with U.S. and metric volume measurement markings; a white plastic lid with a removable clear plastic lid stopper; and a white plastic blade assembly with two angled, stainless steel blades.

The recalled blenders were only sold at Target stores nationwide from September 2007 to February 2011 for about $14.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of certain  LHQM LED Exit Signs with Emergency Lights manufactured by Best Lighting Products, of Pataskala, Ohio the Northwest Indiana personal injury law firm of Schlyer & Associates, the Aggressive Trial Lawyers is warning.

According to the recall notice, the fixtures can malfunction and fail to illuminate in the event of a power failure. This could result in a failure to provide adequate lighting to guide building occupants to an exit in the event of an emergency.

The recalled exit signs have emergency lights fixed at either end with "EXIT" in red or green in the center. The fixtures are installed in commercial buildings, such as hotels and office buildings.

Schlyer & Associates, Aggressive Trial Lawyers, a personal injury law firm in Merrillville, Northwest Indiana is warning of a recall issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission of 77,000 Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats manufactured by Honeywell International Inc., of Morris Township, New Jersey.

According to the recall notice, the thermostats can overheat, causing them to melt and smoke. This poses a burn hazard to the consumer.  The recalled thermostats are rectangular, white, programmable thermostats used to control electric baseboard and fan heaters. “Honeywell” or “Cadet” is printed on the front of the thermostats that come in various sizes. The model number and four-digit date code are printed on a label inside the front cover of the thermostat.   See the recall notice for a listing of all of the recalled model numbers.

The recalled thermostats were sold at various home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes, as well as HVAC and electrical stores, and contractors from January 2000 to December 2007 for between $80 and $300.

If you have one of the recalled thermostats, you should immediately stop using the recalled thermostats by setting the thermostats to 45 degrees or turning them off. Only models with a “B” in the model number have an off switch. Consumers should contact Honeywell at (888) 235-7363 for a free replacement installed by Honeywell.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of 208,000 Fisher-Price Little People® Builders’ Load ‘n Go Wagons the Merrillville, Indiana personal injury law firm, Schlyer & Associates, the Aggressive Trial Lawyers is warning.

According to the recall notice, the surface cleaner attachment's nozzle and spray bar can break and detach, striking and/or breaking the unit's plastic housing. The broken nozzle, spray bar and/or plastic housing can strike consumers, posing a laceration hazard.

The recalled Homelite attachments were sold only at Home Depot stores nationwide from February 2010 through June 2011 for about $70 when sold as an attachment and about $450 when sold with a pressure washer.

According to the FDA, Dole Fresh Vegetables is voluntarily recalling 2,880 cases of DOLE® Italian Blend salad  and 442 cases of Kroger Fresh Selections Italian Style Blend salad , due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes the personal injury law firm of Schlyer & Associates is warning.

The recalled salad packages were distributed in twelve U.S. states (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin) and three Canadian provinces (New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec). 

Only the June 19, 2011 Use-by-Date of Italian Blend salads identified above are included in the recall.

According to the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause foodborne illness in a person who eats a food item contaminated with it. Symptoms of infection may include fever, muscle aches, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If it spreads to the nervous system symptoms may include headache, stiff neck or confusion. The illness primarily impacts pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of 217,000  Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery Knife Sets since the tips of the 8- inch slicing knife and/or the 8-inch bread knife can protrude through the bottom slot row on the wooden block holder, posing a laceration hazard the personal injury law firm, Schlyer & Associates is warning.

Lake County, Indiana Lawyers Advise of Jaguar Recall

The Northwest Indiana law firm, Schlyer & Associates, the Aggressive Trial Lawyers, warn of a recall issued by Jaguar of 2010 XK and XF models.

According to the defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is a problem that could cause power steering  fluid leaks in the engine compartment. The recall includes 6,085 vehicles built from June 27, 2009, through March 10, 2010.

The loss of fluid would make the car harder to steer and could also cause a fires if it came in contact with a hot surface under the hood, according the the recall notice.

If you or a loved one has a recalled vehicle, you should contact your local dealership where technicians are expected to replace the power steering fluid pipes. The service is free of charge. Owners can contact Jaguar at 1-800-452-4827.

Fire & Burn Hazard From Fuel Leak on Dirt Bikes - Recall Issued

Dirt Bikes imported by Baja, Inc. have been recalled according to a notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.  The dirt bikes were sold by  Pep Boys stores nationwide from December 2010 through January 2011 for between $550 and $650.

According to the recall notice, fuel can leak from the fuel tank, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
