Ford Issues Recall of 1.1 Million Pickup Trucks

posted by Schlyerlaw on Aug 2nd, 2011 at 8:26 am

The Aggressive Trial Lawyers, Schlyer & Associates is warning of a recall issued by Ford of 1.1 million pick-up trucks due to a possible problem with the gas tanks, according to a release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to the press release, Ford is recalling certain Ford F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood pickup trucks because prolonged exposure to road de-icing chemicals (road salt in the winter) may corrode the straps holding the fuel tanks in place in the vehicles.

Ford believes, if the straps break the vehicle’s fuel lines may separate from the tank, potentially causing the tank to contact the ground, which may result in a fuel leak and a fire hazard.

Ford will notify owners of the issue and ask them to take their vehicles to their local Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their fuel tank straps replaced, or replaced with fuel straps with increased corrosion protection, according to the release.

Car Tips to Improve Gas Mileage

posted by Schlyerlaw on May 27th, 2011 at 11:06 am

With the summer driving season beginning with this Memorial Day weekend, the Merrillville, Indiana personal injury law firm, Schlyer & Associates has a few tips to help you improve your gas mileage.

Get unnecessary items out of your trunk / vehicle - If your are returning from the store, that is ok, but don't drive around with your unused cooler, tools, cases of water.  If you keep 100 pounds of unnecessary items in your vehicle, that can reduce your miles per gallon by up to 2 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.  At the same time, if you don't NEED it, remove the roof rack.

Walk inside the restaurant - no drive thru - People who have waited 15 minutes in the drive-through line for a cup of coffee (hamburger, sandwich, shake, ect)  used an extra quarter gallon of gas, adding as much as $1 to the cost of that splurge.  Stop your car and head inside for your purchase.

Steady on the gas / brakes - I want to get home too.  But driving aggressively by accelerating fast, then hitting the breaks is a drag on fuel economy, especially on the highway.  Plus, you can possibly avoid a crash.

Set the cruise control - Try to keep the same speed for maximum fuel savings, snowing down / speeding up too often zaps your fuel mileage. The Department of Energy estimates that every five miles per hour over 60 will cost you 24 cents per gallon in gas.

Get the best price for your fuel - Check online for gas prices in your area, then plan your shopping in that area.  There are apps you can use or some gas stations, like Speedway, allow you to check the prices by zip code and city.

Do not forget about your tires - Proper tire pressure is important.  If tire pressure is wrong, it can zap your fuel efficiency.

However, if you are ever injured while driving or otherwise, please call Schlyer & Associates first.

I was injured and it was not my fault.  Is this a type of case you can help me with?

According to the USCPSC about 22,000 full-size and portable drop-side cribs are being recalled by Dream on Me, Inc. of Piscataway, New Jersey.

An infant or toddler's body can become entrapped in the space, which can lead to strangulation and/or suffocation. A child can also fall out of the crib.

Portable Cribs: The drop-side rail hardware can break or fail, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib or fall unexpectedly. In addition, the portable crib mattress support hardware and the drop-side release latch can break easily, and the slats can loosen or break and detach from the crib. Children can also cut themselves on exposed hardware inside the cribs.

The recalled cribs were sold at Toys R Us, Walmart and Target stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com. The full-size cribs were sold from January 2006 to December 2009 for about $200. The portable cribs were sold from September 2007 to December 2009 for about $150.

You should visit www.dreamonme.com to determine whether your crib is affected by the recall.  If your crib is affected, you should immediately stop using the crib and contact the company at (877) 201-4317.  Repair kits or replacements will be available in June or July.
